Park-and-Ride Directions for Quad 4 Parking Lot

The 2007 Jazz in the Square festival will take place July 26-28 with a number of venues and activities planned throughout Downtown, bringing an expected audience of 25,000 to enjoy free music and entertainment.  This year marks the sixth year of the festival, and Clinton and Hanover Squares will once again host concert stage acts, and with performances also planned at downtown music clubs and at the Jazz Central Theater on East Washington Street.

Roving musicians throughout the Armory Square district will also complete the army of jazz artists who will combine to transform the Salt City into Music City for a long weekend of jazz in all its forms.  Always fun and always free, every year Jazz in the Square boasts an all-star, international line-up.

Organized by the Central New York Jazz Arts Foundation (CNYJAF), the festival has become an anchor event for Syracuse’s cultural revival. In addition to three concert stages, Jazz in the Square boasts the Jazz Alley Restaurant Row, a Wine Court, Late Night Dance Parties at The Ohm Lounge in Armory Square, and the Hanover Square Club Crawl, which will include acts at The Coffee Pavilion, the Bull & Bear Pub and Downtown Manhattan’s.

“Jazz in the Square is a celebration of the unique diversity and social power of America’s Music,” said Larry Luttinger, CNYJAF executive director. “We are bringing the same dedication to artistry, education and multicultural outreach to this great festival that we have been delivering in concert, cabaret and educational programs for years.”

The Foundation builds itself as the region’s primary year-round producer of jazz events in concert, cabaret, scholastic, and festival settings. Its mission is to boost exposure to and participation in the jazz art form for the whole community – downtown residents and merchants, urban youth, and African-American and Latino minorities.

2007 marks the first year the Connective Corridor bus will offer free park-and-ride service from the Syracuse University main campus for anyone attending the event.  The public will be able to park for free in the Quad 4 parking lot across from the College Place bus stop.  The bus can also be picked up at any Centro bus stop along its route, and will provide convenient transportation to Armory Square and the many arts and cultural venues throughout Downtown and the University Hill.

The festival is made possible through support provided by Partners Trust Bank and New York State Senator John A.
