Point of Contact Gallery will host a special performance titled “Don’t Blame Anyone,” on November 21 at 6:30pm during Syracuse’s Th3 (The Third Thursday) events. Based on short stories by Julio Cortázar, this performance by Milton Loayza tells the story of a man’s attempts to maintain his sense of reality, a process that carries him deeper into the unreal. This event is free and open to the public.
Milton Loayza is a performer and director who has been focusing in the last four years on bringing Latin American voices to the stage. He has presented Ella by Susana Torres Molina and Asuncion by Ricardo Monti at The Red House and his own translation of Are You Prof. Friedman? by Julio Recalde at ArtRage Gallery. Milton is also a theatre and theory scholar who teaches at SUNY Oswego.
Don’t Blame Anyone is a solo performance adapted from various stories by Argentine author Julio Cortázar. It combines the theatrical presence of a single character struggling to make sense of his reality and the fantastic and imaginative lines that pulsate through Cortázar’s short fiction. This performance celebrates the coming centenary of the author’s birth (1914.)
From 5-8pm visitors are also welcome to view Tango, on display at Point of Contact Gallery. Tango is a 21-piece grand-format folio published by Iris Editions in New York (1991); a collaborative work that includes eight intaglios by the late Nancy Graves and thirteen pages of text by Pedro Cuperman, which gaze at the aesthetics of this Latin American dance.
Th3 (The Third Thursday) is a consortium of 22 Syracuse Arts Venues that coordinate FREE monthly visual arts events from 5-8pm on the third Thursday of every month. For more information about Th3 visit www.th3syracuse.com.
