The City of Syracuse Department of Engineering will conduct a public information meeting to discuss the preliminary design strategies for the Connective Corridor Project. The meeting will be held from 6:30-9:30 P.M. on Tuesday June 23, 2009 at the Syracuse Stage Storch Theatre, 820 East Genesee Street, Syracuse, New York 13210. The meeting location is handicapped accessible with the entrance located on Irving Avenue under the blue awning. Free parking is available either on the street or in the Syracuse University Stage Lot behind Phoebe’s Restaurant.
The ultimate vision of the Connective Corridor is emerging as a signature strip of cutting-edge cultural development connecting the University Hill with downtown Syracuse, showcasing cultural assets, improving streetscapes, and enhancing our parks and public spaces. The public information meeting will focus on the transportation component of the Connective Corridor, a 1.5 mile traffic calming project the City of Syracuse is leading with emphasis on bicycle and pedestrian facilities, and public transportation. The corridor from east to west includes portions of University Avenue, East Genesee Street, and Fayette Street.
The purpose of this meeting is to obtain comments on the proposed transportation design strategies for the corridor from individuals, groups, officials, and local agencies. Specifically, the City is soliciting comments on two distinct design strategies for reapportioning the existing right-of-way to include new bicycle accommodations, enhanced pedestrian facilities, transit stops, traffic calming measures, and other safety improvements. This public information meeting is part of the continuing efforts by the City of Syracuse, the New York State Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration to encourage public input into the development of transportation projects.
Representatives from the City of Syracuse, Syracuse University, the New York State Department of Transportation and the Barton & Loguidice, P.C. design team will be available at the meeting to answer questions and obtain comments on the proposed project.
