To visit Funk ‘n Waffles—in Syracuse University’s Campus Plaza—take the Connective Corridor bus Route 443 or 543 to University Avenue and Marshall Street.

First, the food! Funk ‘n Waffles—located on Syracuse University hill in Campus Plaza behind Marshall Street—features a wide variety of savory and sweet Belgian Waffles, as well as artisan-roasted coffee and espresso, grilled panini sandwiches, fresh free-range egg sandwiches, Purity Ice Cream from Ithaca, NY, fresh fruit smoothies, and much more.

Then there’s the music—enjoy your food in a laid-back atmosphere while you groove out to some funky local talent. Funk ‘n Waffles is a venue for local bands, as well as for open mic events every Wednesday.

Funk ‘n Waffles began when Kyle Corea and Adam Gold were experimenting making waffles during their junior year at Syracuse University. They began serving waffles at house parties several times a month. Those parties grew and Funk ‘n Waffles was born as an original Syracuse phenomenon.

Slowly, but surely, Corea and Gold started to get more serious about their business, and as the months went by, people started to catch on with the help of delicious waffles and funky music. In their senior year, they entered the $40,000 Panasci business plan competition and ended up making the semi-finals!

Although they didn’t walk away with the first prize, they were awarded an honor of Creative Excellence. Their work during the competition gave them enough momentum to actualize a retail business focusing on catering, entertaining, events, and ultimately, a restaurant.
