SYRACUSE NY – A new collaboration marks the ascendancy of a vibrant new “Downtown East” arts district in Syracuse. CNY Jazz Central, the region’s largest year-round provider of jazz programming, announced the formation of a visionary arts alliance with the Orange Line Gallery, a broad-based, multi-media exhibition and performance arts space now in a newly renovated downtown location – 106 Montgomery Street, in the former Firehouse #1, next to City Hall.

A scant two blocks east of the spectacular new gallery, the 99-seat theater at Jazz Central will be named the “Orange Line Theater at Jazz Central”. CNY Jazz Central and Rarely Done Productions, its in-house theatrical company, will be creating cooperative and complementary events before and after shows at the theater – “Curtain Call” after-parties, “Narrative Night” discussion forums, and other concepts to be formulated that will capitalize on the synergy that can be created from the wide variety of experiences that the combined venues can offer in a single evening. “Our partnership is one of both form and substance. We are associating our venues in name, of course, to create a unified brand. Programmatically, it is one that will continually seek synthesis among arts disciplines,” said Larry Luttinger, Executive Director of CNY Jazz Central. We will continually create events that will be more than the sum of their parts, and in so doing, provide patrons with fully planned evenings on highly complimentary themes.”

The organizations will also be partnering on community-wide events held outside their facilities – the first will be the co-creation of a multi-disciplinary concert experience, a March 19th “Pictures at an Exhibition” event. In the Oncenter Carrier Theater, renowned jazz composer and multi-woodwind artist Charles Pillow will perform his jazz suite based on the original themes from the Moussorgsky/Ravel staple of the classical repertoire with select members of the CNY Jazz Orchestra, surrounded by video projections of digitally manipulated images produced by visiting and resident artists from Orange Line. Individual works by the artists will also be on display throughout the evening. Pre-concert discussion of the synaesthetic attributes of musical art inspired by visual images, and the CNY Jazz Orchestra post-concert reception will be held at the gallery, just a short walk from the Civic Center.

Orange Line Gallery will be officially open on Friday October 1st with a new show and artist reception from 5-10pm, celebrating the beauty of advocating, experimenting, exploring and appreciating art and artist. The Orange Line Gallery mission is dedicated to art and the arts, and to artists earning a living in their chosen mediums. It is the mission and message of Orange Line that art is necessary to everyday good living.
