Platinum LEED certification by the U.S. Green Building Council is a rare feat – the highest award for sustainability. Syracuse now has three buildings which have achieved that vaulted designation. Each is part of the Connective Corridor and NWSI neighborhoods, and together, they position Syracuse as a true pioneer in the green building sector.
The Syracuse CoE and King & King have been joined by the Hotel Skyler — one of only three LEED Platinum hotels in the U.S. and one of ten in the world. Even more impressive: It is the only LEED Platinum hotel that has been accomplished as an adaptive reuse of a historic structure.
The project by Norm Swanson, CEO of the Woodbine Group, created a premier boutique hotel through an extraordinary transformation of a classic 1921 building. The Woodbine Group will talk about how it was able to use local products, geothermal energy, and recycled materials during construction at a special FOCUS session, Friday April 20, from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. at City Hall (3rd Floor Council Chambers). The presentation is open to the public, free of charge. It’s also an opportunity to learn about green building from the very best in the world … right here in Syracuse.
