Opening Reception for a Collaborative Exhibit at the Everson Museum, Friday, June 1
Syracuse, NY (May 29) – Onondaga Historical Association Announces an opening reception at the Everson Museum, 401 Harrison St., Syracuse, NY for People, Place and Progress: Local Landscapes in Paint and Print, Friday, June 1 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Free hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be available. There is no charge for current OHA members and one guest to attend the opening reception. Everson members are also free. For all others the fee is $10.
People, Place and Progress: Local Landscapes in Paint and Print is a collaborative effort by both the Everson Museum of Art and Onondaga Historical Association to explore across time the ever-changing landscape of Syracuse and Onondaga County. This exhibition will feature paintings from the collections of both institutions. By pairing paintings with historical photographs of the Erie Canal, rural vistas, and local architectural landmarks, viewers will be able to see how the artists chose to interpret the Central New York setting and why those places help shape our regional identity.
Related programs will include a Downtown Walking tour on June 9 at noon, led by OHA’s Curator of History, Dennis Connors to the sites depicted in the paintings and photographs of People, Place and Progress. The tour starts at the Everson Museum. In addition, Dennis will also give a lecture on the Erie Canal, also at the Everson Museum on July 19 at 6 p.m. On August 19 at 6 p.m., the Everson Museum of Art Assistant Curator Sarah Grzymala will give a Gallery Walk. The tour, lecture, and walk are free and open to the public.
The opening reception is also for another Everson exhibit, Julie Blackmon: Other Tales from Home. This exhibit of digitally reconstructed photographs creates scenes of family life viewers easily recognize. Both exhibits run from June 2 to September 2, 2012 at the Everson Museum, 410 Harrison Street, Syracuse, NY, 13202.
