The Syracuse Beautification Fund was established by the Connective Corridor, a collaboration between Syracuse University, the City of Syracuse and Onondaga County focused on sustainability, smart growth and creative place-making. The project is creating new urban spaces and complete streetscapes with networks of green infrastructure, bike and pedestrian paths, and a free public transportation system, as well as public art. It also catalyzes initiatives around art, culture, technology and civic entrepreneurship.

As part of a larger goal, Syracuse University is working with the CNY Community Foundation to create an endowed fund that will help protect and maintain the public parks and public spaces in the district known as the Connective Corridor. This is especially important at the community level because municipal government is not able to deliver the level of required services for these public spaces downtown and in neighborhoods such as the Connective Corridor which are not part of tax-based special assessment / business improvement districts.

This multi-donor field of interest fund will include both endowed and directed gifts to provide services, improvements and beautification projects along the Connective Corridor that fall outside the scope of services provided through special assessment / business improvement districts.

This includes environmental maintenance of Forman Park, one of the oldest public parks in the city, dating back to 1839, named in honor of the man considered to be the founder of Syracuse.

Public funding creates civic improvements, but it falls upon citizens to uphold and maintain them, and ensure that they are vibrant for the generations that follow. That is the spirit of a true public-private partnership, and the goal of this fund. It is a tool for residents, businesses and interested citizens to become stewards of the future, and contribute to a forward-thinking effort to keep Syracuse beautiful.

Please consider giving to this permanent charitable endowment to help meet these needs.
