The Syracuse & Central New York Police Retirees Association, Inc. was recognized today at a Connective Corridor press event for their work at Forman Park.
Accepting the award was John Corbett.
From the recognition letter from SU Chancellor Nancy Cantor addressed to Peter Ruszczak, association president:
“This is to convey Syracuse University’s appreciation to the Syracuse & Central New York Retirees Association for your voluntary efforts to ‘Adopt’ Forman Park and provide on-going environmental maintenance and beautification services, working in partnership with Syracuse’s Connective Corridor and the City of Syracuse.
Your leadership efforts through such a structured program are a model for collaboration. By bringing both retired and active officers together from across the region, and working side by side with area residents and businesses, you are helping keep this important public space beautiful for community enjoyment. Equally important, you are creating a model for civic engagement that other neighborhoods across the City can emulate, creating a culture of community stewardship that we hope will become part of the fabric of Syracuse.
Forman Park is named after the founder of Syracuse and is one of the oldest parks in the City, dating back to 1839. It is part of the city’s rich fabric of public spaces. It is also home to the Police Memorial, inscribed with the words: Dedication. Sacrifice. Tradition. Your work to help maintain and preserve the park, and honor its legacy for generations to come, certainly embodies that spirit.
On behalf of the University and our partners, we salute and thank you.“
