By Kelly Homan Rodoski, SU News

SU Arts Engage will present two performances of award-winning composer, singer and choreographer Meredith Monk’s “A Celebration Service” on Thursday, Oct. 3, and Saturday, Oct. 5, at Plymouth Congregational Church, 232 E. Onondaga St. in downtown Syracuse. The performances are part of the Imagining America Conference that is taking place in Syracuse Oct. 4-6.

The M6 Ensemble

“A Celebration Service” will be performed by the M6 Ensemble, a vocal ensemble dedicated to continuing the Meredith Monk legacy, and a cast from Syracuse University and the Syracuse community, including students from Manlius-Pebble Hill School.

“A Celebration Service,” an enduring part of Monk’s legacy, combines Monk’s compositions, chants and prayers from many different cultures into a celebration of community while emphasizing the search for meaning and connection through ritual.

The performances will take place on Thursday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. (only for faculty, staff and students with SU/ESF I.D.), and Saturday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. for the general public and SU/ESF faculty, staff and students (free with SU/ESF I.D.). General admission tickets are $10 and are available online at http://artsengage.syr.edu. Tickets will also be available at the door the evening of the performance.

Plymouth Church is within walking distance of the Connective Corridor bus.  (Check the bus page for map and schedule.)
