Films Added to Free Concert Series in Armory Square
The Armory Square Association and the Syracuse International Film Festival are partnering to bring film to this year’s Candlelight Series that will feature seven major concerts on Saturday nights beginning July 7 through August 18.
On July 7 and 21, during Syracuse Symphony Orchestra’s intermission times, winning entries in The Syracuse International Film Festival will be screened. Film presented on July 7 will be “The Wishing Well,” an animated selection by California graphic artist/animator Rob Maxwell that tells a charming and humorous story of 27 characters looking for love.
On Saturday, July 21, the festival will screen the 2006 American documentary “Ride of the Mergansers” and a Korean animation, “The Life.” All films chosen for Candlelight are suitable for all ages.
The year’s featured concert series, staged at the corner of West Jefferson and Franklin Streets begin at 8:00 pm and include the following performance groups:
• July 7 – Syracuse Symphony Orchestra
• July 14 – Central New York Jazz Orchestra
• July 21 – 2nd Concert, Syracuse Symphony Orchestra
• July 28 – The Southern Comfort Band
• August 4 – Syracuse Opera
• August 11 – Paul Robeson Performing Arts Co. “Jazz Innovations”
• August 18 – Mario DeSantis Orchestra 60th Anniversary Celebration
As in the previous three years, the Series will boast the accomplishments of young talent who will take the stage to ‘open the show’ at 6:00 pm on each of the above nights.
¼br> Another favorite component of the event will return, as Armory Square restaurants again serve fine outdoor candlelight dining on streets throughout the Square where all vehicle traffic shuts down in late afternoon.
The Candlelight series is a program of the Armory Square Association, free to the public and made possible by a grant secured by Senator John A. DeFrancisco. The City of Syracuse and Downtown Committee provide additional support. 2007 Corporate and Armory Square business contributors include Centerra Wine Co., Industry, Jefferson Clinton Hawthorn Hotel, Jet Black, RHS Holdings LLC, Ambrosia and Kitty Hoyne.
