March 8th is International Women’s Day (IWD), a day when people around the world show respect and appreciation for women and celebrate their economic, political and social achievements over the years. IWD became a global holiday after the rallies on March 19, 1911, when millions of people campaigned for women’s rights to work, vote and hold public office.
The U.S., unfortunately, does not consider IWD a national holiday, leaving many Americans unaware that the day even exists. ArtRage, an activist gallery devoted to promoting cultural and social change, wanted to elevate IWD throughout Syracuse. Their newest exhibition – 100 Years of Women Rockin’ the World – does just this.
