“Be Downtown Syracuse” is one of new marketing initiatives aimed at recruiting retail businesses to downtown Syracuse. |
Reprinted for CenterState CEO’s November 1 newsletter:
Downtown Syracuse is experiencing renewed interest from prospective retailers as a development boom continues to transform the district. In the last 12 months, 24 new retail businesses have opened in Downtown Syracuse, nearly double 2010’s openings, and triple 2009’s. Development projects currently planned or underway in Downtown Syracuse total over $265 million, including more than 400 new residential units under construction or in the planning stages, creating even more demand for good and services.
The Downtown Committee is building on this positive momentum and has expanded its retail recruitment program to capture a wider audience. A recent retail recruitment event offered a diverse mix of panel sessions to give prospective retailers an overview of the retail climate, including sessions on development, demographics, existing retailers’ experiences, available financing, incentives for businesses, and resources for opening a business. More than 60 interested retailers registered.
Other new marketing initiatives aimed at retail recruitment include the Downtown Committee’s “Great Business Begins Downtown” TV commercial, and new “Be Downtown Syracuse” brochure with information on downtown Syracuse’s growth and retail climate.
