April 21, from noon to 2 p.m. was Green Streets and Local Eats — A Connective Corridor event with 40 Below and the 40 Below Public Art Task Force, the City of Syracuse, Onondaga County / Save the Rain, the Syracuse CoE, Syracuse CVB, Healthy Monday, SU Department of Recreation Services, SU Sustainability, Lerner Center for Public Health Promotion/Monday Mile, UPSTATE, OCCRA, Onondaga County Soil and Water, OHA, Everson Musuem, Redhouse, CNY Arts, Centro, Creekwalk Commons, Syracuse First, Near Westside Initiaitve and the SALT District, CNY Community Foundation, Erie Canal Museum, the Connective Corridor construction team, and a host of community partners.
The event celebrated the beginning of Earth Week, Healthy Monday and SU Wellness Week by getting out from noon to 2 p.m. and walking, biking, sampling local food and celebrating all things local along the Corridor.
Syracuse is one of a handful of communities in the country with real green streets, and we’re building more green streets right now along the Connective Corridor. Take a walk and see green infrastructure going in as we install the biggest civic infrastructure project through downtown in 75 years.

Noon – Four concurrent Monday Mile Walking Tours

- Meet up at City Hall for a Downtown Mile Walk with Leah Moser, program coordinator for the Lerner Center for Public Health Promotion at the Maxwell School, who manages the Healthy Monday Syracuse campaign
- Meet up at Hendricks Chapel for a Campus Mile Walk with Otto the Orange, to launch Wellness Week
- Meet up at the intersection of University and Waverley for “A Green Mile” Walk along the Connective Corridor
- Meet up at SALT Quarters for a Near Westside Mile Walk led by Tai Palermo, Community Organizer, Near Westside Initiative
Noon – Historic Walking Tour of the Civic Strip

Noon – Grand opening of The Everson Museum of Art’s Al Fresco Patio Seating and Outdoor Sculpture Mini-Tour
The Everson Museum of Art is pleased to officially open its outdoor patio seating (a Connective Corridor façade project) for Green Streets and Local Eats, and invites you to bring your lunch and dine al fresco in view of the Everson’s world-class outdoor sculpture collection.There will also be an outdoor sculpture mini tour, beginning at 12:30. Meet on the podium to join the tour.(Note:The Museum itself is closed on Mondays, so enjoy the wonderful outdoor spaces!)

“This Land is Your Land” – the classic Woody Guthrie anthem led by Zeke Leonard, Syracuse VPA faculty member, with local musicians and chorale groups, members of Dream Freedom Revival and an honest-to-goodness ukulele band. Zeke will be playing a handmade wooden cigarbox guitar signed by Pete Seeger (Woody’s great friend), and one of the fathers of the environmental movement in America, who recently passed away at age 93.
