On Saturday, March 6, 2010 Onondaga Historical Association hosted the Central New York National History Day competition at Soule Road Middle School in Liverpool, NY. With “Innovation in History” as this year’s theme; 165 students participated with 134 “innovative” projects in Junior and Senior Divisions. Students in grades 6-12, from Onondaga, Oswego, Cortland, Madison, and Cayuga Counties chose and researched topics related to the annual theme and presented their findings in one of 5 mediums: exhibit, performance, paper, website, or documentary.
Forty-five individuals from the community from as far away as Rochester and Utica volunteered to serve as judges and critique the students’ works. Awards were given out in an afternoon ceremony that included entertainment, “He Said She Said: The Stanton’s of Waterloo”, the reenactment of a Women’s Rights Convention.

The students who placed 1st and 2nd will compete in the state Contest in Cooperstown, NY on April 30th. Those winners will continue onto Washington, DC for National History Day.
