Public Lecture will Demonstrate Architectural Projections

The Urban Video Project (UVP) will present a lecture by interactive designer and installation artist Bill Gastrock on Monday, April 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the main auditorium of The Warehouse, 350 W. Fayette St. Parking is available in areas adjacent to The Warehouse.

Gastrock, who will speak on architectural projections as public art, has a background in computer programming, electronic media and performance. He translates this knowledge into artistic innovation with interactive designs that make the audience a part of the performance.

Gastrock has designed artistic projections ranging from hotel lobby installations to surround-sound tunnels for private parties. His music and visual art installations, including his recent motion-interactive “Motley Interplay,” have received critical acclaim. His work was recently displayed at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia.

Inspired by the Connective Corridor and Th3, the citywide arts open held on the third Thursday of each month, UVP is the brainchild of the 40 Below Public Arts Task Force and Blake Carrington, Christopher Gianunzio and Colin Todd, graduate students in SU’s College of Visual and Performing Arts. A public arts initiative, UVP seeks to bring art to the streets and buildings of Syracuse using multiple video projections, six-channel sound and performance to explore new forms of cartography that challenge traditional functions and perceptions of urban space and identity. Working closely with many University and community partners, UVP produces installations throughout the year.

The Connective Corridor Shuttle Bus (Centro Route #543) will operate during the spring months on Thursdays and Fridays from 5-11:40 p.m. and Saturdays from 1-11:40 p.m. The free shuttle service provides a convenient way to travel to cultural events and happenings at SU and in downtown Syracuse.
