Artist’s work can be seen through downtown Syracuse 

Internationally known sculptor David Hayes will lecture on his work at noon, Wednesday, Oct. 31, at the Redhouse, 201 S. West St. The talk is free, and patrons may bring a brown bag lunch.

Hayes will describe his creative process and life experiences as a sculptor. He will also talk about some of his monumental works located in different parts of the country. A question-and-answer period will follow.

Hayes is currently showing the exhibition “Sculpture in Syracuse,” which places sculpture where people live, work and play and allows individuals to interact with the work on their own terms. The 18 sculptures are located throughout downtown Syracuse, including at Columbus Circle, the park adjacent to the Museum of Science and Technology (MOST), the park adjacent to the Redhouse and Syracuse University’s The Warehouse, City Hall Commons and the Everson Museum of Art.

Considered one of America’s great living sculptors, Hayes has work included in the Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim Museum in New York City. He has exhibited for 50 years and has work included in more than 100 major collections.

Hayes’ talk is sponsored by the office of New York State Sen. John A. DeFrancisco, the Redhouse and the sculpture program in SU’s College of Visual and Performing Arts.
