The SUArt Galleries presents MFA 2007, an exhibit composed of artwork by Masters of Fine Arts degree candidates at Syracuse University’s School of Art and Design. Fourteen artists will exhibit a range of work from video and installation to painting, photography and sculpture. The exhibition opens March 20 and runs through April 22. A public reception will be held Thursday, March 22 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
MFA 2007 encompasses a broad range of both media and content. Some of the artists use personal experience and family as a central concept and inspiration. Others make statements on industrialization and the human condition. There are traditional processes: the expressive paintings and drawings by Elena Peteva speak to personal relationships as well as physical process. The photographs and film by Latoya Frazier document a family member’s struggle with addiction.Additionally, there is a variety of new media: Stacey Barton explores issues of the identity of the modern woman through video projection. A virtual installation by Sarah Howell engages the viewer to interact with her work in order to uncover new meaning in “the seemingly arbitrary and everyday.”
The SUArt Galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and open until 8:00 on Thursday evenings. On weekends and evening, visitors can park in the Q4 lot off College Place on the SU main campus. Notify the attendant that you are visiting the Galleries and you will be directed where to park. If spaces aren’t available the attendant will direct you to the nearest lot.
