The 35th season of Syracuse Opera closes in April with the timeless story of Hansel & Gretel. Directed by Syracuse Opera former Artistic Director Richard McKee, the production features innovative and colorful costumes, the Syracuse Opera Children’s Chorus, and Humperdinck’s authentic children’s folk songs. Designed with families in mind, Hansel & Gretel is an enchanting and irresistible opera for all ages.
The famous brother and sister duo set out on a musical adventure through the Black Forest in search of berries to help feed their starving family. Lost and hungry, they cross paths with many enchanted characters including the Sandman, the Dew Fairy, and, of course, the notorious Witch, who turns lost children into gingerbread and eats them. Music, magic, and merriment abound in this fairy tale opera for all ages-and like all good fairy tales, Hansel and Gretel live happily ever after.
An opera in two acts, Hansel & Gretel will be sung in English with projected English titles. Performances are Friday, April 23, 2010, at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 25, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. in the Crouse- Hinds Theater of the John H. Mulroy Civic Center Theaters at Oncenter.
