Starting today:  Central New Yorkers are invited to share their best images of life in our community as Show Us CNY14 begins Wednesday (June 25) and runs through next Monday (June 30).  The idea of Show Us CNY14 is simple: Individuals use their smartphone or digital camera to take a photo or short video of where they are/who they’re with/what they are doing and then post the imagery to Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or Google+ using the hashtag #ShowUsCNY14.As the postings accumulate, they will be aggregated on a RebelMouse site to create a colossal, crowd-sourced community collage: https://www.rebelmouse.com/ShowUsCNY. In addition to the online component, Show Us CNY14 has a special in-person component: After the posting period has ended, a panel of judges will review all of the art on the RebelMouse site and select 30 images that will be printed by Light Work, mounted by the SU Bookstore, and displayed in a public exhibition at the Everson Museum of Art from Aug. 21-30. The exhibition will open with an Aug. 21 public reception at the museum presented by The Gifford Foundation and the Central New York Community Foundation. ShowUsCNY14 is led by Social Media Breakfast Syracuse, an organization of local social media practitioners and enthusiasts, with support from generous sponsors Central New York Community Foundation, The Gifford FoundationEverson Museum of Art, Light Work, SU Bookstore, Giansanti Design and CNY Arts, along with promotional partners SyracuseFirst, Believe in Syracuse, Syracuse Connective Corridor, Downtown Committee of Syracuse, Syracuse Press Club, Syracuse Guru and Syracuse Convention & Visitors Bureau.  Show Us CNY14 is inspired by Social Media Day (Monday, June 30), an international event created by the Mashable media organization in 2010 as “a way to recognize the digital revolution happening right before our eyes.”  Show Us CNY debuted in 2013 over the weekend of June 29-30. The response was astounding, with 240 photos and short videos shared with the #ShowUsCNY hashtag on that Saturday and Sunday. And it continued, with many more submitted over the weeks and even months that followed. All told, nearly 500 images were collected. And the project was even the subject of a follow-up story by Mashable: http://mashable.com/2013/07/05/social-media-day-unique-celebrations/.
